Your Drainage System - What is it?
Everyone has a drainage system, or multiple! More specifically, every property is fitted with a drainage system including your home and workplace.
Your drainage system has one job, protecting your property from flooding and build-ups of waste. It does this by draining and moving your waste through the system, eventually transporting it to your local sewer system.
Most people think that their drainage system is just some pipes, but it actually contains much more than that.
Here are just some of the key players that make up your drainage system and what they do.
Firstly, the gully. The gully, located outside your property, is meant for collecting rainwater. This does this by allowing flowing water to pass through it’s gaps, and then transport it away from your property. Without the gully in place your property is at a very high risk of flooding, as water will be able to build up much easier.
Secondly, the septic tank. This tank stores solid wastes until they are settled down and able to flow. Without your septic tank, solid waste would clog your pipes and cause blockages that would require professional services.
Lastly, your interceptor. The interceptor acts as a sieve and filters out contaminants and other unwanted substances before the waste reaches the main sewer system. If your interceptor was to become dirty or faulty, you could not only have a blockage but a contaminated one.
These are just 3 of the many parts which work together to keep you and your property safe.
